"Something the MTA does not want you to know: on the catwalk just inside the tunnel at each end of a station platform you’ll see a blue light. Right by the light is a marked switch that shuts off third rail power in the station vicinity. If you ever have to flip the switch, which obviously is only in case of dire emergency such as a person lying on the tracks, be sure to pick up the telephone next to it, as tower personnel might otherwise switch the power back on."
